General preparations
In your tariff management menu, you will see a new function to add tariffs to the system. As before, you can add a so-called “EMP sales tariff" for your customers. This tariff regulates your customer’s rights and permissions at your charging stations; or when you are implementing the roaming functions.
You now have the option of entering the core information of the tariff in the system. Only the tariff name and the currency you want to bill the charging session to the end customer are mandatory fields.
Please note that you must create your own eMSP.OPERATION tariff for each billing currency. However, if your customer charges abroad, with a CPO in a foreign currency, ChargePoint automatically converts the amount owing into your local billing currency based on the daily exchange rate. So, the invoice from ChargePoint is always in the same currency as your regular invoices. If you now want to use the eMSP.OPERATION services of ChargePoint, you have to add the so-called "EMP sales tariff (managed by eMSP.OPERATION)" to the system. This creates an EMP sales tariff in the system, for which the roaming functions via ChargePoint are already activated by default.
After completing these steps, a new tariff is created in your system. It is named “standard tariff including eMSP roaming" by default unless you name it differently. In this tariff, you now make all the relevant settings and adjustments you want to implement for your roaming connection.
The configuration is carried out, in the same way as with regular EMP rates, via the “Conditions" button in the tariff overview. After you call up the conditions of the tariff, the following window opens:
Automation
The eMSP.OPERATION tariffs have a high degree of automation, which significantly simplifies the work with the system. This includes the automation of inherent tariff conditions for both buying and selling prices.
Authorization control
You have the option of individually configuring the authorization access for your customers and employees within the tariff itself. If necessary, you can limit access to specific charging networks. You can specify who can charge, under what conditions, and for how long.
Billing management
The billing of roaming charging processes that your customers or employees carry out at third-party CPO charging stations is always charged automatically to you as the direct customer of ChargePoint. You are charged in the currency in which you operate your instance.
The billing for your customers or employees is up to you and is processed by the standard billing cycle in your be.ENERGISED instance. This way, you also bear the debt collection risk for your customer or employee.
Tariff configuration
The tariff configuration offers you various settings and functions, which affect the ability to perform a charging session and the associated billing. On the main page, you will find the following settings, which are explained in more detail below:
Basic fee
eMSP.OPERATION tariffs also have a basic fee that you can bill to your customers automatically. Generally, you are free to choose the basic fee level. If you have not agreed upon any other price scale, a monthly basic fee of € 4.50 will be charged for every RFID card activated in eMSP.OPERATION. With this configuration, you can further bill this amount to your customers.
Block access after a set period of time
The system can automatically deactivate RFID cards after a set period of time. This is
helpful if you want to issue annual contracts. If this function is inactive, the contracts are automatically extended for a further billing period.
Stop charging operations automatically
You can stop charging operations automatically. The specified time in minutes defines the maximum charging time allowed for that tariff. This limit can be set at individual stations. Please note, however, that especially in the case of roaming, charging processes are often only transmitted to ChargePoint after they have been carried out. Because of this, ChargePoint cannot provide any guarantees for this function.
Enable automated eMSP.OPERATIONS pricing
If you activate this function, then all charging processes are automatically charged to your customer with the effective amount. In other words, if this function is set to YES, then the purchase price is the same as the sales price. You then charge your customer the same price that is charged to you by the charging station operator.
If, for example, you also set a 5% surcharge under "Automatic charge in percent on roaming charging processes" (see next point), then 5% will be added to the sales price for your customer.
If the function is deactivated, then charging processes are charged to the customer with an amount of 0.00, unless other settings have been made via the assignment of cost rates.
Specifically, this means that if you set "Enable automated eMSP.OPERATIONS pricing?" to "No", without any other allocation of costs, your customers will be charged an amount of 0.00. Even if you have set a surcharge of X%, your customer will be charged 0.00 (because 0.00 + 5% remains 0.00).
If you do not activate this function, but you have defined the corresponding cost rates and you have set a 5% surcharge, your customer will be charged the costs from the settings including a surcharge of 5%.
Please note that this function represents the lowest fallback level. If you define specific costs in the tariff, for example for specific CPOs, these will always have priority. The automated surcharges are defined below.
Automatic percentage surcharge on roaming charging operations
The percentage surcharge defines a percentage value that is added to the net amount of the charging process. For example, you could always bill your customers an additional 10% premium. The percentage surcharge is not shown to the customer.
Automatic surcharge on roaming charging operations
The automatic surcharge defines a fixed amount, which is automatically added onto the charging process bill. The one-time surcharge will be shown to the customer in the cost calculation!
Enforce a cost rate at your charging station?
If a cost rate is defined here, it applies to all charging devices where the issuing company of the RFID card is also the charging station owner.
Standard cost rate
The standard cost rate defines the default rate if no other rate is applied.
Access control
This function is for the access to charging stations and is controlled in the tariff configuration via the tab “external roaming". In this setting, you can set your customers’ access to specific CPOs. By default, access is not enabled for all CPOs.

Please note that CPOs apply fees for loading operations that can vary greatly. ChargePoint tried to standardize these tariffs to contribute to better transparency. If you would like more detailed information, please get in touch with your personal contact at ChargePoint.
Everything is set! – Now, you can start!
Congratulations, you have successfully completed the general configuration of the eMSP.OPERATION. For your customers to start roaming, you must now assign the corresponding tariff to the customer’s authorization medium. This gives your customers immediate access to the charging stations in the eMSP.OPERATION environment.
