Background
It may happen that tax rates for certain countries change over time. Let's assume that in the "Musterland" the VAT rate will be increased from 20% to 25% as of 01.01.2024. If you now own charging stations in this country, an adjustment in the configuration for tax rates must take place accordingly. In this article, we will show you how to implement this change in be.ENERGISED and minimize the risk of charging transactions with an incorrect tax rate.
What to do?
We will stick to the example above. In order to minimize the risk of either the "old" tax rate being applied to charging sessions from 01.01.2024, or the "new" tax rate being applied to charging sessions before 01.01.2024, the changeover is to take place at midnight (24:00) from 31.12.2023 to 01.01.2024.
Step 1: Create the new tax rate
Under Finance/ Settings/ Tax configuration you create tax rates. In the case described above, this would be a VAT rate of 25%. The information on how to create a new tax rate can be found here (item Types of taxes).
Step 2: International taxes/ filter by "old" tax rate
In this step, go to the item "International taxes" under Finance/ Settings. To display all configurations that have the tax rate "VAT Musterland 20%" stored, go to "Filter". In the "Tax" field, you can filter for "VAT Musterland 20%". This will display the corresponding tax configurations.
Step 3: Replace tax rate
To change the tax rate, click on the pencil icon in the configuration. In the "Tax" item, select the "VAT Musterland 25%" tax rate from the drop-down menu. Then click on "Save". This completes the last step. As mentioned above, you should make the change at 24:00. By doing so, you largely ensure that charging sessions are assigned to the correct tax rate during this transition period.
